Boundary commission visits Ipokia

The Director-General of the National Boundary Commission, Dr Muhammed Ahmad, has visited the oil rich Tongeji community in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, assuring that the Federal Government was making frantic efforts towards ensuring that peace existed between Nigeria and Benin Republic.Dr Ahmad made this known at a meeting he held with his counterpart from Benin Republic at the palace of the Akoko of Tongeji Island, Oba Obabiolounkosi Okiki who doubled as the host Oba.According to a press release by Oyede Olusanjo of the Information Department of Ipokia Local Government, the Director General said his commission and the Benin Republic Boundary Commission were working hand in hand to clear the water hyacinth over River Adjarra, a development which he said grossly affected free movement of goods and people of these areas. The Chairman, Transition Committee of Ipokia Local Government, Chief Samiu Adeyemi, thanked the Director- General and his team for the visit, noting that the relationship between the two countries goes beyond being border neighbours, stressing that there existed cross cultural and cross border inter marriages. The Permanent Secretary, Boundary Commission of Benin Republic, Dr Marcel Baglo, in his address, lauded the people of the two communities for maintaining peace all these years.In his remarks, the Akoko of Tongeji Island thanked the government for the concern shown for the people of the two areas just as he reiterated his people's commitment to peaceful co-existence.
