Bauchi treats women with VVF, plans free meals for patients

PLANS have been concluded by the Bauchi State government to offer free meals to patients in its hospitals.The government is also giving special attention to women-related health issues.Already, the state government has kicked off free treatment for women suffering from Visco Vaginal Fistula (VVF) at the Bauchi and Ningi special centres.Governor Isa Yuguda, who disclosed this yesterday at the opening of the VVF Centre in Ningi Local Council, said 140 women have benefitted from the scheme.He said the centre was established with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to fight the persistence of VVF in the North.Yuguda said his administration had budgeted N200 million for women-related programmes in the next five years, adding that the patients' feeding would soon be taken over by the government.The governor explained that the decision to establish the VVF centre was informed by his visits to some states in the country where such medical services exist.Yuguda has also commissionedcommunity radio centres in 10 local councils to ensure effective information dissemination to bridge the communication gap between the government and the people.During the one of the ceremoniesin Ganjuwa Local Council, Yuguda said the community radios were aimed at giving a voice to the people; promoting development, and improving on the quality of education to foster unity, peace and integrity among residents of the state.The governor promised to give priority to all mass communication media in the state for effective dissemination of information, saying that over N80 million had been released for the project.He tasked media practitioners to use the outfits to create an egalitarian society through objective reporting and positive propaganda.The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Muhammadu Damina, said the community radios signified a new era in information delivery in the state. He said the community radios would assist in sensitisation and mobilisation of rural dwellers.
