Telecommunications giant, Globacom, last weekend, gave Nigerians a rare treat by hosting four comedy shows across the country. Tribune Features captures snippets from the events.NIGERIA'S National Telecom Operator, Globacom, last weekend, gave its teeming subscribers an unforgettable Easter package as it serenaded them to four amazing entertainment shows in different parts of the country.The telecoms company staged a special edition of its flagship festival of comedy and music tagged, Laftafest in Asaba, Delta State; Osogbo, Osun State and Uyo in Akwa Ibom State while it sponsored Laffmatazz, a huge comedy fiesta hosted by ace comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka for Ibadan people.Audiences at the four shows were unanimous in rating them as the best gift any corporate organization gave its customers during the Easter.Huge crowds thronged the four centers, making it seem as if the cities had emptied their inhabitants to the different venues. On Good Friday, residents of Asaba, the capital city of Delta State, filled the main auditorium of Orchid Hotel Suites, located at the Government Reservation Area of the city to capacity as they trooped out in their thousands to catch fun and enjoy the Easter festivities in a very special way.Anchored by the ever resourceful comedian, Basketmouth, the show brought out the creativity, ingenuity and resourcefulness of the array of Nigerian artistes who were on hand to entertain the people free of charge.Comedians, ranging from weird Akpororo, to Bovi, Buchi and I Go Dye, collaborated with musicians such as Uncle O, Djinee, Whizz Boy and African Rapper Number One, MI, to make the event, which was witnessed by many dignitaries including ace actor and Delta State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Richard Mofe-Damijo, a memorable night.For the residents of Uyo and the adjoining towns and villages, there could have been no better way to round off the Easter holiday than catching fun at the Glo Laffta Fest Easter Special Edition held on Easter Monday at the Amazing Grace Event Center, Ibom Imo area of the Akwa Ibom State capital.The show which paraded some of the best stars in the nation's entertainment industry was anchored by Basketmouth and featured other stars such as Bovi, I Go Dye, 2Cantalk, Dan the Humorous, Osama and Buchi. "If you see me Ego" crooner, Djinee brought down the roof while MI was simply incredible as the entire crowd stood, singing all his tunes including "Africa's Rapper No 1" with him. The atmosphere was electrifying.An innovation was introduced to the evening of fun and entertainment when, aside the usual singing and dancing competitions, members of the audience who considered themselves big in stature were asked to come up stage and compete for the " Orobo" dance competition. A civil servant, Miss Atim Uko, won the contest with her delectable footworks.Dignitaries at the show included Mrs Regina Udomitia Bassey, Director of Tourism, Akwa Ibom Ministry of Culture and Tourism; a former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon Kennedy Ekong and his wife, the consultant to Ibom Plaza, Mr Pius Umuren, and a host of others.Osogbo, the Osun State capital, had earlier on Saturday exploded in scintillating excitement as thousands gathered to catch fun at the Easter special Edition of Laftafest.The Osogbo show was anchored by Gbenga Adeyinka with artistes like Eedris Abdulkareem, Sound Sultan, and several comedians including Lepacious Bose, Omo Baba and Osama thrilling the crowd.Capturing the essence of the show in his opening remarks, Globacom Divisional Director for South-South, Mr. Charles Odiase, said that the show was a way of showing appreciation to the Globacom subscribers for their continued patronage, loyalty and commitment to the Glo network.Odiase, while reiterating the commitment of the company to the empowerment of the Nigerian people, said that Akwa Ibom "is very key to the Glo business and we assure you that we will not relent in our efforts at delighting the people of the state in particular and Nigerians in general at all times".The Divisional Director, West 11, Mr. Dimeji Amao also in his remarks talked about Globacom's G Bam product and encouraged students in the state to hook unto G Bam to avail themselves of the immense benefits which the product presents. According to him, 250 students across the institutions in Nigeria stand to win $5,000 dollars scholarship funds each once they migrate to G Bam every quarter.At the Laffmatazz show in Ibadan, Gbenga Adeyinka and Friends including Ali Baba, Omo Baba, Lepacious Bose, Laff Up and others were on hand to crack ribs while Kenny St Best, Terry G, Eedris Abdulkareem, Lord of Ajasa, Skuki, capital FEMI, and 9ice rendered sonorous beats to the people's ecstasy.While the artistes on parade at the event gave a good account of themselves, participants were equally given the opportunity to showcase their talents in the singing and dancing competitions that attracted fantastic prizes, just as the attendee with the best swag was also rewarded.
