Cellulant Nigeria clears air on fertilizer scheme

CELLULANT Corporation, a mobile commerce network operator that recently won a contract to design, develop and operate the technology platform for the Nigeria's Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GES); has described itself as a Pan-African and full-fledged local firm.The GES Scheme is an electronic-mobile registration, validation and value chain development system (e-wallet) that supports the distribution of farm inputs directly to farmers.The firm said that contrary to reports that it was a wholly Kenyan firm, 'Cellulant is a business founded originally by Nigerians and Kenyans with operations across many African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Botswana.'Executive Director, Special Projects, Cellullant Corporation Limited, Bolaji Akinboro, at the weekend, in Lagos, said the firm was offering a rang of services, including value added services or wireless application service provider segment of the telecommunication industry.It is also an ecosystem provider in the mobile commerce segment of the banking industry.'Cellulant is a Nigerian company that has been duly registered and operating in the country for over eight years, with vast experience in the valued added services segment in the telecommunications sector,' he said.Akinboro explained that the firm's involvement in the Nigeria's subsidised fertiliser access scheme included the deployment of its expertise in value chain development, digital content creation, delivery and management of mobile telecommunications network.'As a leading mobile commerce network operator in Africa that manages, delivers and bills for digital content and mobile payment networks, we understand the requirements and challenges of mobile commerce business.'Over the years, we have worked with several Nigerian telecommunication companies, banks and various other organisations to deliver and manage digital content and it is the same expertise and experience that the Nigerian government will leverage to operate the Growth Enhancement Support Scheme,' he added.
