Lagos: Ifako residents task FG on stable power supply

Published by Tribune on Thu, 19 Apr 2012

Residents of Daddy Savage Street in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, have called on President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that power supply in the country is stabilised within the shortest possible time.A cross-section of the residents in a chat with Community News, expressed displeasure at the ever dwindling power supply in the country, saying it was becoming worrisome. The residents spoke against the backdrop of the worsening power supply to the area which they said had made life unbearable, particularly with the prevailing hot weather condition. In a chat with the Community News, a barber in the neighbourhood who gave his name as Kunle, lamented the untold hardship the epileptic power supply has been causing him."My brother, this power problem is a serious thing and it is badly affecting my business. For close to three months now, power supply to this area has been very bad and I have to depend on generator to keep my business going", he said.Kunle further revealed that he has been spending a lot of money to fuel his generator, saying this had adversely affected his profit margin."The amount I spend in buying fuel is much and you know, we cannot just increase our charges because there is no light. So, the situation is so pathetic, only God can save us in this country," he said.He then called on President Goodluck Jonathan to hasten up all his actions on reviving the ailing power sector of the economy.Another artisan in the area who gave his name as Banji, equally expressed his displeasure over the bad state of the power sector. The middle-aged man who is into welding business, described the situation as very unfortunate, saying the Jonathan led administration should urgently do something drastic to save the masses from the sad development."President Jonathan made a lot of promises to Nigerians concerning the rot in the power sector. I am yet to see anything concrete towards overcoming this problem. I advise that he steps up all his actions towards ensuring and achieving a 24-hour, all round power supply to every part of this country," he said."The other day, we heard that Kainji Dam was shut because it was leaking. How long will it take them to fix the problem' We are tired of all these wahala in this country. Let the government show us for once that it is serious by tackling this problem headlong once and for all," he added.
