Okemesi rejects exclusion from burial plans for late Babajide

Members of Okemesi community in Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State have announced their displeasure over the non-inclusion of Okemesi, the birth place of one of the leaders of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Prophet David Olulana Babajide, whose burial plans were announced by the family without including the community.The community members berated the children of the late Prophet Babajide for sidelining the community in the burial arrangements of their late illustrious son.The community members said they were particularly miffed by Babajide's children's intention to bury the late Prophet and Pastor of CAC at Ilesa in Osun State in preference to his home-state, Okemesi in Ekiti State, saying it was even more baffling that the community was not even mentioned in the entire programme.According to the burial programme of the late Prophet Babajide, a Trustee and General Evangelist of CAC Worldwide, his body will be interred tomorrow at Ilesa.A statement signed by a leader of Okemesi community, Chief Morakinyo Ogunniyi, observed that the intention to bury the clergyman in Ilesa was a slight on the community and regretted that 'Okemesi community was not put in focus in the burial arrangements, which contradicts the expectations of the indigenes of the town.'Ogunniyi, publisher of a community magazine called Kayegbo, said he and members of the community 'expected the children to bring the body of the prominent Prophet to Okemesi, his birth place for lying-in-state, even if it was the intention of the children to bury him at Ilesa.'According to him, 'the late cleric buried his wife in Okemesi Ekiti some years back, which indicated the interest the man had for his town,' adding that 'this, he expected the children to consolidate upon.'The community leader contended that the town thought the late Prophet would be buried at the premises of his church in Okemesi to afford them the opportunity of naming the road to the church after the late prophet, adding that part of the plans was to upgrade the church into a tourist centre for CAC members if the late prophet is buried within his own church premises.Prophet Babajide died February at the age of 112.
