Ibadan Team shines as Copa Cola-Cola zonal tourney begins

COPA Coca-Cola South West Zonal tournament kicked off yesterday at the Olubadan Stadium in Ibadan with teams from Lagos, Oyo, Ekiti and Kwara contesting to represent the zone at the national finals.Copa Coca-Cola is an U-17 grassroots 'football tourney aimed at discovering hidden talents and giving them the opportunity to actualize their dreams of making football their career.Yesterday's opening game between Ibadan and Lagos showed once again that Nigeria is blessed with raw talents, as the young boys displayed amazing skills to the delight of the spectators at the stadium.Ibadan started the game with eight players after two over-aged players were screened out of the competition, but that did not stop the side from raising the curtain in the second minute of the first half through Toheeb Omilenle.As though the goal was a wake-up call, the Lagos team responded in the 19th minute, but unrelenting, the Ibadan boys took the fight to the Eko stars in the second half, with Muritala Akande getting the second goal in the 65th minute.Speaking after the game, the Project Manager, Copa Coca-Cola, Femi Adelusi, congratulated the Ibadan fans for their support during the previous year's zonal tourney, adding that three players from the team were part of the Copa Coca-Cola side that went to Chelsea, United Kingdom, for the international tournament.
