THE Garfar House (Red) come out best in the third biennial inter-house sports and athletics competition of both primary and secondary arms of Ronnie Schools, Ojodu, Lagos, at the event that took place at the Institute of Journalism playing ground, Ogba, Lagos.Various events that took place include tiny tots, 100 and 200 metres, filling the basket and sack race, among others. Invited primary schools that took part in the competition were Fasta International School, Omole, Carol School, Agidingbi and Alpha Group of Schools, Ojodu, among others, while invited secondary schools were Alpha High School, Ojodu, Rita College, Sabo, and Isolog High School, Ojodu, among others.Speaking during the occasion, the Educational Development Director, Ibironke Alaba, disclosed that the school has participated in various competitions and performed creditably and also highlighted the importance of sports in education.''Sports are very vital for the physical well-being and good living of children to complement their academic pursuance,' Alaba said. ''More so, that sports is now worldly acclaimed, it is necessary to create the interest in children so as to give opportunity to as many that would want to take to sports in future.'Alaba advised the government to see private schools as partners in progress and as the public schools are being improved, private schools should equally be improved through trainings and seminars and roads leading to these schools rehabilitated.The director, who agreed that there was need for improvement in standard of education generally, urged the government to minimize the type of levies being imposed on private schools and rather come up with policies that would standardize and categorise private schools.Meanwhile, the school''s Chairman, Board of Governors, Kayode Olugbuyi, has reminded the that private schools have come to stay as the government cannot do it alone but should rather ensure standard.He also called on the government to consider subvention to standard private schools, just as he called on private schools to employ quality teachers, ensure that syllabi are well taught and be involved in training and retraining of their teachers.
