Salami goes nowhere, Enyimba tells 3SC

Published by Guardian on Sun, 22 Apr 2012

AFRICA''S former champion, Enyimba of Aba, has refuted claims that its star striker, Gbolahan Salami, was returning to his former club, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.A popular Nigerian website reported yesterday that the home-based Eagle has concluded plans to return to the Ibadan-based club, which he left for Enyimba just before the 2011/2012 season kicked off. According to the website, Salami has met with Oyo State Sports Commissioner, Dapo Lam Adesina, ''to sort out their differences which led to his departure to Enyimba on the eve of the season.'The club relieved Salami for ''gross misconduct,' with Adesina saying that he played god while he was at the club last season. An Enyimba official, who pleaded anonymity, told The Guardian yesterday that the club has not decided to do away with Salami and as such the striker would remain in Aba.''Salami has been one of our outstanding players this season and we don''t have any reason to trade him. But we are aware that many clubs have been hovering around us for our players and the message is that they are not for sale now,' the source said.''The players we want to release have already joined other clubs, and we are not entertaining any more requests for any player. Salami is not in the team to Ondo for our game against Rising Stars because he is injured, he got injured in Dubai while with the Eagles and we are monitoring his situation.'Enyimba''s coach, Austin Eguavoen, did not say anything on the Salami issue when The Guardian called him yesterday. A source close to the club said Eguavoen was concentrating on tomorrow''s game against Rising Stars and was not in a position to talk on another issue for now.Meanwhile, 3SC has interviewed Falcons'' coach, Kadiri Ikhana, and Godfrey Esu for its vacant chief coach job. According to MTNfootball.com, United States-based coach, Henry Abiodun, has also been grilled for the position.Festus Allen, who began the season in charge of 3SC''s technical crew, has been suspended until further notice after a poor run of results in the first round of the league, with his assistants, Tunde Odubola and Busari Hakeem, leading the team in an interim capacity.
