Oshiomhole, 3 political parties congratulate Jonathan

Published by Tribune on Tue, 19 Apr 2011

The Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and three political parties have congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan on his election victory. In a congratulatory message, the governor said: On behalf of the people and government of Edo State, I wish to heartily congratulate Mr President over your resounding victory in the 2011 presidential elections.Your declaration as the winneris a reflection of your acceptance by the majority of Nigerians across the country, in a process that was globally and nationally acclaimed as free and fair. The three political partiesthe National Movement of Progressive Party (NMPP), the Citizens Popular Party (CPP) and the Nigerian People Congress (NPC)have congratulated Dr Goodluck Jonathan on his victory in the presidential polls at the weekend. The parties noted that the election was the freest election in the history of Nigerian democracy, as Nigerians trooped out en masse to vote and choose their president. They urged other presidential candidates to accept defeat instead of dissipating energy challenging the elections in court and argued that because President Jonathan showed that he could be trusted to pilot the affairs of the nation, Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for him and not the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).NMPP, in a statement signed by its national chairman, Chief Lawrence Atuana, said that this was the first time since independence in 1960 that votes did not go either on party or tribal line. The party commended the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, for justifying the confidence reposed in him and urged him to improve in subsequent elections. It said: We have no doubt that Jonathan will lead the nation to the promised land and breathe fresh air into governance that will yielddividends of democracy.
