Weve been short-changed, Katsina CPC cries out

Published by Tribune on Tue, 19 Apr 2011

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has faulted the results of the presidential elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Katsina State. The state chairman of the CPC, Dr Yushau Armiyau, who stated this in Katsina, atthe weekend, said the number of votes won by the party was more than what theINEC had declared.INEC had in its summary of results for the state declared that CPC won 864,343 votes, as collated from the 34 local government areas of the state. This Armiyau stated,short-changed the party by about 300,000 votes, as the original votes won by the CPC should be 1,163,918 votes and not the figures declared. One of CPCs agents, Garba Lawal, who accompanied the party chairman, said the discrepancy was discovered following INECs release of its results, when the party recounted all the votes collated in the state.According to the party, the issue had been brought to the attention of the INEC and that the commission had accepted the error, stressing that if this anomaly could happen in Katsina, it was possible that the case wasthe same in other states of the federation. He said exposing the discrepancy was necessary for everyone to be vigilant.
