Mixed reactions trail planned dualisation of road in Ota

Published by Tribune on Tue, 24 Apr 2012

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the planned dualization of Iganmode Road in Ota area of Ogun State as many house owners along the road have expressed fears that they may not be properly compensated by the government.More than 200 houses will be demolished as the state government prefects plans to widen one of the major roads in the ancient town. Some of the residents commended the government for the efforts, which according to them, will lead to more development in the Ogun community as more road users will now drive through the town.Landlords, whose houses will definitely be demolished as a result of the planned dualization have, however, endorsed the extension of the road , which according to them, is ' okay 'Those areas to be affected by the extension of Iganmode road are: Iyana Ota, Arigbabu, ILO Yidi, Iyana Okesuna, Post Office, Panapana Ita Ajana, Ita-Oba, Oruba, Ilata, Iyana All for God and some parts of Oju Ore.A resident of Arigbabu who identified himself as Bimbo, commended the governor for what he described as ' the vision to see beyond the present ' and advised the governor to ensure that the quality of the road is superb.Bimbo strongly disagreed with those opposed to the dualisation of the road, describing them as 'not seeing beyond the present state of the road ' and implored residents of the town to cooperate with the government. Some of the landlords, who kicked against the planned extension of the road, lamented that over ninety per cent of the houses that would be demolished have no Certificate of Occupancy and owners would find it impossible to be compensated. They complained that the houses were built some decades ago with woods and planks and were later renovated with mud when C of O was not even in existence. They, however, appealed to the state governor to ensure that they conduct a survey of the affected houses and pay them due compensations with or without the certificate-of-occupancy.
