50 Ondo youths begin apprenticeship in bakery

The Ondo State Government and the Master Bakers Association in the state have collaborated to train youths across communities in the state in bakery to further reduce unemployment in the state.At least, 50 young school leavers from Akure are to benefit from the pilot scheme of the apprenticeship/attachment programme which was inaugurated in the state capital.Speaking at the inauguration of the programme, the Commissioner for Employment and Productivity, Taye Akinyele, said the programme was part of efforts of government at engaging the youth of the state in productive activities.He said the programme which would last for six months, would see the beneficiaries being attached to bakeries across Akure after which they are expected to start their own businesses.According to him, at the end of the training programme, the beneficiaries would be assisted by government to get fund to establish their businesses through some of the existing credit windows in the state.Akinyele noted that the programme would enable the beneficiaries contribute to the economic development of the state and also turn to employers of labour.He added that government would soon commence the same programme in tiling, Plaster of Paris (POP) making, metal fabrication among other ventures with the aim of reducing unemployment in the state.Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Alhaji Yekini Olanipekun, asked the youth to learn the trade fast and be committed to the training.The commissioner expressed the commitment of government to the liberation of the youths of the state, urging them to resist any attempt to use them for selfish political reasons.The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Employment and Productivity, Ade Okiki, said the ministry selected trustworthy people to participate in the programme.He however lauded the Master Bakers for collaborating with government, saying that government would be willing to join hands with other associations and private sector to develop the youths of the state.
