Fares: NCAA warns foreign, domestic airlines

Published by Tribune on Wed, 25 Apr 2012

Henceforth, all foreign airlines and domestic carriers operating in the country are expected to file and keep open for public inspection, tariffs showing all their rates, fares and charges in such form and manner as may be prescribed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and to approve or reject tariffs so filed. The order, which took effect from Tuesday, had to do with the determination of the Federal Government to put an end to the long exploitation of Nigerian travelling public by foreign airlines and even domestic airlines, through arbitrary fare charges on the Nigerian routes. In a notice issued to all the airlines on Thursday, entitled: 'Re: In the issue regarding tariff and fare components integration and filing,' the government, through the NCAA, said 'this is an order made pursuant to Section 30(4)(a-d) of the Civil Aviation Act 2006, which requires every airline to file and keep open for public inspection, tariffs showing all rates, fares and charges in such form and manner as may be prescribed by the authority, and to approve or reject tariffs so filed.'Under the latest directives, airlines would have to carry the regulatory body along before introducing new fares or promotional fares. The NCAA said every airline should, henceforth, provide within its tariff, in relation to the different specific classes or types of passenger service, the integrated fare applicable, its availability, the existence of special or promotional fares and the general fare basis code.
