Umiaghwa-Abaraka installs new Ovie

Oria in Abraka Kingdom of Delta State, recently received over 20 military topshots at the installation and presentation of staff of office to the new Ovie of Umiaghawa-Abraka, Air Vice Marshal Lucky Ochuko Ararile (retd). The visitors, included former Chief of Defence Staff, Paul Dalie; Generals Obada, John Kpokpogri; and former governors of Delta State, Ibrahim Kefas and Walter Feghabor.Both the town hall where the coronation took place and the prestigious Turf Club, venue of the presentation of staff of office by the state government, were filled to capacity by dignitaries from far and near.The new traditional ruler, in his address, noted some issues like defining the status of Abraka Central, which he said could be resolved between the two kingdoms in Abraka, while others may need the intervention of state government.According to him, the kingdom has enormous challenges, especially in the areas of infrastructural development, employment and economic empowerment.With the status of Umiaghwa-Abraka, as an oil-bearing community, the monarch stated, 'we expect relevant government agencies such as NDDC and DESOPADEC to register their presence in the area.Chairman of the coronation committee, Dr Theresa Vwede Agbabune,explained that during the pre-coronation activities free eye test was performed involving 316 persons of which 16 had cataract operations.Twenty-two persons had pterygium out of which 15 had excision, while 51 were given refraction eyeglasses.According to her, 251 persons were tested of HIV/AIDS with three referrals, adding that 1,110 children were de-wormed.Several personalities felicitated with the new Ovie including the Emir of Borgu, Senator H. Dantoro, Kitoro III, who recalled the new traditional ruler's role in his days as Commander of the Nigerian Air force 99 Air, Weapon School, Kainji, in his doman and the level of his discipline and professionalism.Earlier, while presenting the staff of office, deputy governor of the state, Prof. Amos Utuama, who represented Governor Uduaghan, rejoiced with Umiaghwa-Abraka people over the accession and wished the majesty would dialogue with the Ovie of Orvarive-Abraka so that the two brothers can live peacefully.As a disciplined military officer, the governor urged him to remain consistent in handling all matters concerning the sanctity of their custom.
