Discipline: PDP empowers zonal chairmen

DETERMINED to restore absolute discipline in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its new National Working Committee (NWC), under the leadership of Alhaji Bamaga Tukur, has barred state chapters of the party from further communicating directly with its national secretariat in Abuja with immediate effect.The new directive was contained in a circular, dated April 4, 2012, with reference number PDP/NS/EST/146/T/49, which was addressed to zonal and state chairmen of the party, a copy of which was obtained by the Nigerian Tribune.Following this development, the zonal working committees would now be the clearing houses for all the state chapters nationwide, as against the former practices, where all isses, even at the ward levels, would be brought to Abuja for settlement.It was gathered that the measure was aimed at engendering easy processing and decisions taking at the national secretariat.The circular, signed by the national director of administration of the party, Alhaji Gurama Bawa, said 'it has come to the notice of the national headquaters of the PDP that approved channel of communication for official matters, especially complaints, are not being addressed to the appropriate quarters. 'You are to please note that processing of such correspondences to arrive at any meaningful decision is obviouly difficult in the absence of comments and or observations from the appropriate quarters.
