Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kill six in Borno, Yobe

GUNMEN suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect yesterday launched two separate attacks on the residence of a retired civil servant, Mallam Shettima Chibok, in Bulunkutu ward of Maiduguri, Borno State capital and a beer parlour in Damaturu, Yobe State capital, killing Chibok and five people and injuring six others at the beer parlour.The gunmen, according to Joint Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri, also abducted Chibok's two children aged 10 and seven after shooting him dead in the presence of his wife at 1.00 p.m. on Wednesday.Confirming the incident yesterday, JTF Spokesman, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa,in a signed press statement, said: 'At about 13:00 hours, suspected Boko Haram terrorists on a tricycle machine (Keke Napep) rode to the house of a retired civil servant located at Bulunkutu Tsallake in Maiduguri metropolis and shot him dead. JTF cordoned and searched the area whichresulted into the killing of one of the three terrorists'.He, however, said two of the gunmen escaped, abandoning the tricycle they used in attacking and killing Chibok.Musa added that two suspects were arrested and are assisting the JTF and the police in the arrest of assassins.Speaking on the beer parlour attacks and killings, Yobe State Police Command spokesman, Gbagensin Toyin, in telephone conversation, said: 'We received the report of the attacks on the beer parlour thismorning, after suspected gunmen on a tricycle opened fire on the people at a beer parlour in the Kandahar ward of Damaturu at about 7.00 p.m. on Potiskum road'.An eyewitness and resident of Damaturu said: 'Three people on our table died instantly while two others died after receiving treatment at the Sani Abacha Hospital, Damaturu.Among those killed were a man known by the nickname Tablet and a director with the Yobe State government. Three of those killed were from Potiskum'.
