Election Of New Leadership In CAC Causes Dissafection

Published by Guardian on Sun, 29 Apr 2012

A GROUP known as the Movement for Divine Restoration of Christ Apostolic Church, has condemned the recent election that brought Pastor Abraham Akinoso and Pastor Michael Agbaje, respectively, as the new President and General Superintendent of Christ Apostolic Church.Speaking through its Coordinator, Pastor Moses Adedoyin, the group said the General National Executive Council of the Church, which elected the two helmsmen did not follow due process as laid down by the Constitution of the church. In a search for the way forward, the Movement met last Sunday, at the Lagos General Headquarters of the church and pledged its commitment to exploring all avenues in bringing the aggrieved groups together 'under one fold.'Adedoyin, who spoke to journalists in Lagos, shortly after meeting with the Supreme Council, lamented that the feud in the CAC family was giving members serious concern. He said the group was worried that if the lingering conflict was not resolved the fate of the church, might hang in the balance.'We have just met with some factions on the ways of reuniting the church. We wish to call for an end to the lingering leadership crisis. We appeal to all the factions to sheathe their swords.'The CAC is the beginning of Pentecostalism in Nigeria in 1930 and we cannot afford to let the crisis tear the church apart.'Our focus is to see that this church will come together as one. For many years now, we have seen many factions; God does not dwell in confusion. He said the church needed leaders that would act as a rallying point for achieving the desired goals of reunification of the church.'We can only come together if there is a rallying point in terms of leadership. If there is leadership that will rally people in order to achieve the desired goal ' unity, we believe the church will be divinely restored.'We are communicating. We want to communicate with people around and sensitise them; we also want to mobilise support for our efforts in terms of reunification of the church,' Adedoyin said.Over 10 members of the Supreme Council were present at the meeting where they promised to work with any genuinely constituted body for speedy reconciliation of warring factions. It would be recalled that the church has been enmeshed in leadership conflict for sometime now.
