Soccer Face-Off will ccelebrate Nigerian football legends, say officials

Published by Guardian on Tue, 01 May 2012

OFFICIALS of the newly introduced weekly television programme, Soccer Face'Off, have said it would provide a forum to identify with the passion of Nigerian football enthusiasts, encourage research, celebrate football stars as well as legends across the globe.According to its co-ordinator, Ebonwu Johnson, the programme also aims to capture the viewing delight and interest of the public as well as reward the passion of the participants.Speaking at a media launch in Lagos, Johnson said that Soccer Face'Off was a weekly interactive football television quiz game show that would be franchised and viewed in over 10 countries within the first two years of its commencement.Soccer Face'Off is at the verge of making history and it is conceived and designed to consolidate other football programmes on television,' he said. 'It is a progamme of wits, a battle between two contestants per time, from a pool of invited respondents seeking to eliminate each other in an attempt to win the star prize, which is a 'sign-on fee' of N1, 000,000.00, and a monthly salary of N100,000 naira for 10 months.'Johnson hinted that certain rules are structured into the programme to bring in some twist, enrich the thrill and further make it difficult to determine who eventually emerges as contestant for the star prize. According to him, the programme boasts the possibility of obscure questions that will be contested, no doubt.Additionally, it will create more excitement, suspense and ultimately, narrow the chances of either contestant proceeding to the second stage for the star prize. He said: 'The programme is structured to entertain as it tests and broadens the knowledge base of football enthusiasts on the game, encourage research, celebrate football stars and legends as well as inspire a new generation of followers to the game of football.'Men and institutions who make history are not those with extraordinary quality, ability or capacity, but rather, those who have resolved, with sheer commitment, to change the tides of time by taking the risk of uncertain outcome, doing the same thing common to us in an exceptional way.'We are not in doubt that today heralds the birth of a football game show, which will attract the commendation of Nigerians and the international entertainment community.
