THE Ogun State council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has appealed to the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to ensure speedy trial of four of its members arrested and detained over their involvement in the last nationwide fuel subsidy protest in the state. The state chairman of NLC, Comrade Akeem Ambali, stated this during the May Day rally held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, on Tuesday. He said that prompt intervention of the governor would assist them to get justice.Comrade Ambali expressed dissatisfaction over failure of the state government to increase pension of retirees in the state. The NLC boss said: 'There is a law in Nigeria that stipulates that anytime there is increment in the minimum wage, this should apply to the pensioners but this has not been so in the state. We also appeal to the governor on the need for the speedy trial of four of our members who are currently in court over the subsidy removal protest.'The state chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Seyi Adebanjo, called on the Federal Government not to sweep the report of the probe panel under the carpet in the interest of the public. The governor, in his address, charged workers in the state on quality service delivery saying no government could succeed without the cooperation of its workforce.'I charge all our civil servants to make quality service delivery and exhibit exemplary discipline to support government knowing fully that we shall give account of our stewardship to the public that sent us.'Exhibit zero tolerance on corruption in carrying out your duties,' he said.
