Imo gov: Okorocha, Araraumell fall on April 26 -Ohakim

Published by Tribune on Wed, 20 Apr 2011

STILL basking in the euphoria of the more than 90 per cent votes he gave to President Goodluck Jonathan last Saturday in Imo State, Governor Ikedi Ohakim, on Monday declared that opposition politicians would be defeated during the April 26 governorship election.Ohakim, who is contesting for a re-election on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his challengers, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Rochas Okorocha and the Action Congress of Nigeria (can) standard-bearer, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, would fail.He said in Owerri: I shall emerge as the governor on April 26. My people will confirm my tenure. I have the mandate and there is no other governor in Imo State. My people have decided to give me another term and there is nothing anybody can do about it. My people will give me nothing less than 90 per cent of their total votes because I have done very well. There is no sector that this administration has not touched very well. I told Nigerians that I shall deliver 90 per cent votes to President Goodluck Jonathan and I did because my people had assured me.At a very young age, I became the town union president and I was involved in students politics as far back as 1974. Those of them who are contesting elections, were they born here They were born in the North. They couldnt trace their village expect for about two years back when they came. Some of them were born in Delta. Show me any of the candidates of Imo governorship election who can claim that he is a home boy. Most of them cant speak Igbo, they cant read Igbo Bible. Their children cannot speak Igbo. They cant even say one proverb in Igbo. Let them come to the radio and speak Igbo. Forget about what they are trying to do. They are just media creations.I want to appeal to my people to vote en masse in the governorship election as they did in previous elections. I will do more and will surely consolidate on my achievements. There is no competition in Imo State. My people know where they are going and they are behind me. Opposition elements are rabble rousers and very soon, they shall be placed in their position. Nobody can foment trouble here. No matter the connection they have. The governor said he was facing opposition in the South-East state because when he resumed on May 29, 2007, he decided to execute people-oriented programmes.
