Residents of Denro-Ishasi task Ogun govt

Published by Tribune on Wed, 20 Apr 2011

Respite may have come to residents of Sodipe, Akinwunmi and Odejayi communities of Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos as a Good Samaritan recently illuminated the environment with solar light. The area, which had not been enjoying electricity like many other places, had become a paradise for residents who now move around at night without fear. One of the residents, Mr. Femi Afolayan, said that each street was decorated with two electric poles carrying solar bulbs, which adequately lit up the area.He said, Since the Power Holding Company of Nigeria embarked on the use of small transformer, electricity has not been regular in the area until somebody just came around in December to install the  solar power.Asked who the Good Samaritan was, Afolayan said he did not know, describing the gesture as the best he had witnessed since he packed to the area about eight years ago.He said, I learnt that the man has promised to provide similar facility for other streets in the area. Only God can reward him because the project gives us rest of mind as it boost the security of the area.Speaking with Community News, another resident, Dr. Tunji Lawson, disclosed that one Mr. Oyefeso who happened to be the Chief Security Officer for the Community Development Association, provided the solar light. He said, The man has contributed the solar light as part of his contribution to the security of the community. He has even promised to spread it to adjacent streets.Lawson said that it became necessary to light up the area because of the incessant incidence of armed robbery in the area, adding that with the new project, the security would be enhanced. We hear what residents of our neighbouring streets pass through in the hands of these armed robbers. We observe that this robbery is possible because there is no light. That is one of the reasons why we have come with this idea, he said.
