Emir calls for elimination of illiteracy

Published by Tribune on Wed, 20 Apr 2011

APPARENTLY disturbed by the low level of education of his people, the district head of Dali and Galadinran Bakundi, Alhaji Yusuf Liman, has appealed to the Taraba State government to establish additional schools in the area, so as to eliminate illiteracy in his domain. In a memo to the state government recently, he requested the establishment of schools in the area and decried the non-availability of functional education, basic health centres and rural electrification projects in his domain.According to Galadiman Bakundi, the request was predicated on the fact that Dali district and Bali Local Government Area of the state, were among one of the most educationally-disadvantaged areas in the state. The district head said he was saddened by the dilapidated nature of educational institutions in Dali district, adding that in 10 villages surrounding the area, only four government primary schools were in existence. On health centres, he noted that the district needed 15-bed capacity centres in the area to cater for the population of 50,000 people who could not access health facilities across the local government.Other pressing issues, according to district head, included siting of the rural electrification project. He noted that the economy of the people would witness tremendous boost if the district was provided with electricity. While enjoining the people of the district to support government policies and programmes, Galadima Bakundi expressed gratitude to Governor Danbaba Suntai for executing people-oriented projects at all levels.
