Mido hammers Olasode 5-0 in Apapa Chairman's Cup

IT was goal feast at the opening match of the second Apapa Chairman's Cup football competition as the defending champion, Olasode Babes, got a 0-5 bashing from FC Mido.Like a horrible nightmare, the Olasode team could not get its form in the match, which Mido dominated for most part of the encounter. Kalu Umanna opened scoring in the 13th minute after receiving a pass, and Effiong Williams added the second minutes later while Abel Grey increased the tally in the 30th minute to end the first half 3-0.The duo of Ejire Oshoke and Emmanuel Charles increased the defending champions' woes as they scored in the 60th and 78th minutes respectively.The Chairman of Apapa Local Council, Joseph Ayodeji, flagged off the competition on Wednesday with an opening ceremony held at the Lagos National Stadium, after which he led the Political Holders team to a 3-0 victory over Civil Servants team in a novelty match to kick off the tournament.Ayodeji said that his administration was determination to continue to use sports as a tool for grassroots development, stating: 'We have a focus and will maintain our youth development programme with sports as one of the cardinal points.
