Cult kingpins threaten to attack Bayelsa CP

The onslaught of security agencies against the prohibited activities of cultists in Bayelsa State may have taken new dimension, as kingpins of arrested cultists have threatened to attack the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Olakpe and top echelon of the his command, should they fail to release apprehended cultists in their custody, Nigerian Tribune investigation has revealed.It was gathered that few days before the state governor, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, signed Secret Cult Societies and Similar Activities Prohibition Bill 2012 into law, kingpins and sponsors of cultists in the oil rich state had been inundating cell phones of the police boss with threats to launch attack on him and high ranking security officers.The threats, security source told the Nigerian Tribune, were coming against the backdrop of several suspected cultists arrested by the police in its recent clampdown on cult groups allegedly involved in killings and violence foisted on the state.Confirming the threats to attack him on Thursday, during a familiarisation visit to the base of the Mobile Police Force 30, Olakpe said 'I was threatened some few days ago by certain faceless individuals suspected to be kingpins of cultists in the state, who said some of their staunch members are being held'.The police boss said they threatened that if I don't release the cultists, they would launch attacks on me and senior police officers, but I dared them to go ahead with their empty threats and be ready to face the damning consequences.'While imploring the policemen in the state to double their efforts towards combating cultism and other form of criminalities in the state, Olakpe added that 'we have made several arrests of cultists and moreso, the enabling law to prosecute them had just been signed by the governor and we would wage war headlong against them in Bayelsa State.'He assured that all the logistic challenges confronting the state police command would be addressed, as part of measures aimed at ensuring the efficiency of the security agency.
