Im not afraid of Flying Eagles, says Camerouns coach

Published by Guardian on Wed, 20 Apr 2011

COACH of the Junior Indomitable Lions, Martin Mpile, has said he is not afraid of the Flying Eagles despite the latters victory over the defending champions, the Black Starlets of Ghana, in the Group B opening game on Monday at Dobsonville.Speaking after his teams 1-0 victory over Gambia on Monday, Mpile said there was no need to be afraid of the Nigerians, rather the Flying Eagles should be afraid of his team, which can spring surprises against the five-time champion. The Cameroun coach said their ambition at this championship was to book a place in the World Youth Championship in Columbia later in the year and possibly win the title. Mpile added: We are here to win the title just like every other team. We are not afraid of Nigeria or any other team. If beating Nigeria will enhance our title bid, then we are ready to defeat the Nigerians. He said his team qualified to play at the championship just like Nigeria and there was no need being afraid of the Flying Eagles, adding that his team had a good game against Gambia. The Lions defeated the Gambia through an own-goal but it would be a different game against Nigeria.Meanwhile, The Gambias coach, Lamine Sarr, said the Camerounian team was not special but his team was unlucky to lose to the Junior Indomitable Lions. According to him, a costly error by his player resulted in the own-goal, else, his boys could have got a point from the game. He further assured that the game against Ghana would be very interesting and competitive after both sides lost their opening matches.According to Sarr, a loss by any of the teams would mean its exit from the competition. He was also critical of the muddy and bumpy pitch, which he said prevented his team from playing a free-flow game.
