Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Talks Harry Kane Move, Riyad Mahrez Rumours

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 06 Nov 2015

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out any chance of crossing the north London divide to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane in future, while Leicester City are fighting to keep their hands on Riyad Mahrez.Spurs striker Kane has rediscovered his best form following a slow start to the campaign, and a player of his skill set would surely be welcomed into the Gunners squad following Theo Walcott's recent injury. But Wenger confirmed on Friday that there is no chance of the former Arsenal academy player returning to the Emirates as he spoke to the media ahead of Sunday's north London derby, via Uche Amako of theDaily Express:"He has great qualities and he will make a great career. Once a player is at Spurs you dont even consider him anymore."That clearly wasn't Wenger's feeling toward Sol Campbell after he welcomed the centre-back to Arsenal in 2001, although his recruitment was eased by the fact that the former Spurs defender was available on a free transfer.Kane failed to find the back of the net in his first eight games of the 2015-16 campaign, but following his strike in the 2-1 win over Anderlecht, Betway depicted his recent vein of form as being much richer:Wenger has had little choice but to revert to Olivier Giroud as his main striker after makeshift frontman Walcott suffered injury in the League Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. Some fans at the Emirates may be willing to look past Kane's Tottenham allegiance, considering how valuable he could be to their squad, especially considering his past growing up in Arsenal colours. However, with his cost likely to be a large one and the rivalry involved, the England international won't be making the north London swap, it seems, or at least not under Wenger's watch.Meanwhile,Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has spoken of his desire to see midfield marvel Mahrez remain at King Power Stadium after this season's magnificent rise to the top, via the Daily Star (h/tTelegraph):I think it is important for him to continue with us and to learn more. It is one thing to play for Leicester and another to play at the highest level. When you arrive at the top, when you play well it is normal, so you must do something more. It is another very important step so it is important he grows up with me, here.Leicester City have been mesmerising this season, making the move up to third place thanks largely to the consistent form of Mahrez, who has seven Premier League goals to his name this term.Alongside England striker Jamie Vardy, the Algeria playmaker has stood out as one of the English top flight's in-form assets of late. Sky Sports illustrated their influence, with Mahrez's creative skills sticking out in particular:The 24-year-old has been utilised mainly down Leicester's right wing this season, but despite his surge, it would be difficult to imagine Mahrez displacing Alexis Sanchez from the position he currently occupies at Arsenal. The Gunners may therefore struggle to fit the African star into their starting XI at present, although the BBC's John Bennett envisions him becoming one of the continent's best players in the next year:Mahrez is a malleable midfield talent in that he's also lined up on the left and through the middle this season, taking responsibility for the Foxes' penalties and some set pieces. It's hardly a shock Ranieri wants to keep hold of the puppeteer who is pushing his team up the Premier League ranks, but questions are already being asked as to when Leicester will reach their limit, with Arsenal waiting in the wings.
