Fasehun, Babatope warn against violence

KILLINGS and wanton destruction of property in some states in the northern parts of the country following last Saturdays presidential polls have drawn criticisms from the leader and founder of the Yoruba group, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Dr. Frederick Fasehun and former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope.In a statement yesterday to The Guardian, Fasehun recalled that shortly before the commencement of the April 2011 elections, the OPC made a public statement asking if Nigerians were preparing for war or elections. The dangerous trend of bombing, arson and assassination then, according to Fasehun, informed the apprehension.Babatope, however, expressed satisfaction with the position of Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, for what he called his patriotic pre-election statement. Babatope also noted that in the end, forces of unity and progress in the country will surely triumph over forces of darkness.
