Why Nigeria must focus on agric, by Israeli envoy

ISRAEL'S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Hoshe Ram, has said that the country is an extremely important nation not only in Africa, but also to the global community including his home country.He stated this in Minna, the Niger State capital during the official transplanting of the first seedlings under Israeli Agricultural Humanitarian Project in conjunction with the state government with theme: 'Irrigation for life' at the Lapai'Gwari Village in Bosso Local Council.The envoy advised Nigeria to allow agriculture to once again take its principal place by training and explaining to its youths that agriculture is a lucrative profession.He assured the state government of his country's readiness to play a part in the development of Nigeria's agricultural sector and urged government at all levels to encourage youths to go into farming rather than migrate to the cities where they could become idle.'If we are looking at the site here and two and a half years of very simple method of irrigation system and it is replicated all over Nigeria because in this country you have five or six months of the raining season and it is the right season. This kind of very simple solution is something that the small and not the very big farmers can work with.'Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu said Nigeria is capable of feeding not only the citizenry, but the entire world population if the government at all levels could place emphasis on agriculture.
