Oloro lauds govt, INEC over polls

Published by Tribune on Thu, 21 Apr 2011

The Oloro of Oro and paramount ruler of Oro Kingdom in Kwara State, Oba Abdul Rafiu Olaniyi Ajiboye, has given kudos to both federal and state governments, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),  for the peaceful conduct of the last two elections. The traditional ruler commended the commission for ensuring free and fair elections which, according to him, would ensure the emergence of credible leaders. He praised the federal and  state governments for providing required resources for INECs activities and for the security of lives and property which, he observed, facilitated INEC delivery of its services effectively and efficiently in spite of the hitches when the voting was to commence. The traditional ruler, who spoke in his palace, pointed out that the smoothness of the exercise, was comparable to the June 12, 1993 presidential election, adding that if the process continued with improvement, it would lead the nation to the expected promised land.According to him, Nigerians have spoken out boldly with the outcome of the presidential election that Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the person they prefer as their leader.Oba Ajiboye also commended Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State for standing up among his peers to support the policy of one man, one vote, even as he congratulated him on his success at the polls to represent his people of Kwara Central Senatorial District. He, therefore, implored his subjects and Nigerians in general not to relent in contributing their quota to the ongoing transition of civilian-to-civilian government and to shun violence or any act that could jeopardise the electoral process.I have spoken to my people to do all that they need to do, particularly by performing their civic responsibilities of voting to elect credible leaders. It is a sacrifice that is worth it, for the sake of the future generations of Nigerians, he added. The traditional ruler, also enjoined the people to support government in bringing about the required changes in the society, particularly in ensuring the enthronement of credible leaders. He charged his people to troop out in large number to vote into office the persons they wanted as governor and representatives in the state House of Assembly. He also advised INEC leadership not to rest on their oars, but to keep on improving on the system so that the credibility of the electoral process could be enhanced.
