Pearson, Kaplan open English language test centre in Lagos

TWO leading education outfits, Kaplan and Pearson, have opened a centre to offer Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic English test in Lagos.The move is to widen opportunities forNigerian students to planning to study overseas. In a statement, Mary Agbu, Regional Director of Kaplan in Nigeria, said PTE Academic is approved for students wishing to study at a United Kingdom (UK) or Australian university and who are required to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language before undertaking their programmes.The test centre, at Kaplan's office in Lagos, provides students with a newly developed test preparation pack which includes interactive activities, test tips, test-taking strategies and more than 200 test items for practice.Agbu, who is also the teacher trainer for delivery of Pearson's training in Nigeria, urged heads of schools and education providers at the launch event, to maximise the opportunities offered them by the centre.Pearson has been delivering PTE Academic in its own centres in Lagos and Abuja. The company teamed up with Kaplan to open an additional centre due to the increase in demand for the test.Emma Stubbs, Senior Vice President of Language Testing, Pearson, said: 'PTE Academic is a popular choice among students who need to take an English language test, particularly because of the availability of our test sessions and the speed at which we return test scores ' the fastest turn-around in the market.'Also, Sue Edwards, Project Director, Kaplan International Colleges said: 'Kaplan's students will now have access to a study package that is interactive and will ensure students are well-prepared and stand the best chance of success in their test and application.
