Nigeria wallops Eastern Selected by 124 runs

IN continuation of its preparations for the forthcoming Pepsi World Cricket League (WCL) Division Seven play-off and the Africa Premier League (APL) Twenty20 (T20) Division Two championships coming up in Botswana and South Africa respectively in May this year, Nigeria defeated Eastern Selected by 124 runs in a 50-over practice match played yesterday in Benoni, South Africa.Nigeria scored 303 all out while Easterners were bowled all out for 179 in 35 overs. Demola Onikoyi of Nigeria knocked an impressive 122 runs before he was clean bowled, supported by Endurance Ofem (captain), who scored 57 runs before he was stumped. Ramit Gill, who opened the batting with Onikoyi, scored 23 runs while Sean Philips scored 29 runs.The Easterners did not have a clue to Seye Olympios swings as he took four wickets for 35 in nine overs. Kunle Adegbola got two for 36 runs in six overs. Geoffrey and Ephraim top scored for Easterners with 63 and 52 respectively.The team, currently in a training camp in Benoni, South Africa, continues with its tight training programme, which will see it play more friendlies before the APL T20 championship.
