NDLEA arrests 42 suspected drug traffickers

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a total of 42 suspected drug traffickers at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.The arrests and seizures were recorded between January and March 2011. Those arrested within the first quarter of the year included one female and 41 males.The seized drugs with estimated street value of N576 million in Nigeria consist of 38.703kg of cocaine, 22.025kg of methamphetamine, 12.07kg of heroin and 120 grammes of cannabis.NDLEA Airport Commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, attributed the arrests and seizures to vigilance on the part of his officers and promised to intensify intelligence-gathering efforts.He also thanked other security agencies and organisations at the airport for their cooperation in the fight against illicit drug-trafficking.
