CJ swears in JPs in Kwale

CHIEF Judge of Delta State, Justice Z.A. Smith, yesterday said the appointment of Justices of Peace (JP) in the state was informed by the need to bring justice closer to the people in a bid to minimise crime in the society.Justice Smith stated this yesterday through the Kwale High Court Judge, Justice P.J.O. Anigboro, during the swearing-in of Ferdinand Ossai and Augustine Enemuwe at the Kwale High Court, Delta State.According to Justice Smith, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan approved the appointment and the JPs have the power to preserve peace at all times, suppress riots, stop all forms of disorderliness, issue search warrants, among others.Justice Smith charged JPs to be firm and fair in carrying out their functions, asserting that their integrity would often be put to test as they were bound to face challenges but, when you diligently applyyourselves to these challenges with a determination to succeed, you will always come out triumphantly.While warning that any JP who is found wanting in his duties will be shown the way out without minding whose ox is gored, he reiterated, it is my hope that you will live up to expectation and not betray the confidence, which the government and people of this state have, by this appointment given you.
