Ikorodu motorists, commuters laud Lagos govt over bypass

Published by Tribune on Fri, 22 Apr 2011

Motorists, motorcyclists and commuters in Ikorodu town and environs have commended Lagos State Government for re-constructing a bypass along old Sagamu road in the community.Only last week, the bypass, which is about half a kilometer, linking the Lagos road in the vicinity, was re-opened for motorists. To a large extent, this has drastically reduced the traffic logjam in the main roundabout which has become a nightmare to motorists and commuters in the area.Vehicles from Sagamu, Odogunyan, Ijebu-Ode, Ogijo and environs that are heading to Lagos now have easy access linking the road. This also applies to motorists from Lagos heading to some other communities. It will be recalled that the bypass project, which was completed in February this year, collapsed five days after it was re-opened.A motor spare part sellers Akeem Kolawole, told Community News that the re-opening of the bypass was a big relief to him and other traders, stating that while the reconstruction lasted, they were cut off from the people and customers. We are very happy that the road is re-opened. We have suffered so much, customers were no longer coming and there was no business boom at all. Now, we are hopeful, we will be able to get back our customers, he said.An Okada rider in the community, Mr. Donatus Okanmah, told Community News that the re-opening of the bypass was a relief to everybody living around the community, stressing that, apart from traffic jam, it was difficult to get passengers across to the streets along the bypass.
