Retired Eagles, street soccer stars rally for Fashola

Published by Guardian on Fri, 22 Apr 2011

FORMER international footballers, as well as street soccer stars are among members of the Lagos sports community who will converge at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Sunday in a rally to honour Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola. The high point of the event tagged Score With BRF, is a star football match between the All Stars International Football Club, Surulere, and the Managers FC of Isolo in which the governor is expected to play. There shall also be series of games involving various street soccer teams and musical entertainment to raise the curtain for the day. Organisers of the event say it is designed to show appreciation for the commitment and achievements of the governor in sports development in Lagos State and the platform he has provided for youths across the state to express their sporting talents and pursue better life. A member of the organising committee and team manager of 41 Planners of Amuwo Odofin, Prince Edoh, said: it is going to be a full house. Top footballers, ex-internationals and veterans are enthusiastic about the event and they are coming. All the teams that have participated in street soccer since its inception, together with their fans and friends, are all converging for the event. We also expect the families of the players to join in appreciation of the new lease of life the government has provided for their children through sports. The entire sports community has endorsed the governor for a second term so that he can continue with the good works. So the rally is more of a celebration of excellence and not just a campaign.
