Fela visits Dbanj in Lagos

WHEN a king visits a town, his first port of call is the palace of the king of that town. That was exactly what actors Kevin Mambo and Sahr, the two actors playing the Afrobeat king Fela, in the Broadway play that is touring Nigeria, FELA! In Lagos, billed to begin showing from April 20 through 25 in Lagos, did.Dbanj, the award winning Nigerian star played host to the duo at his Lekki mansion on Thursday alongside some other members of the famous Mo Hits crew such as Bankuli, Iwelu, Sankara and K Switch among others.Mambo was full of praises for the superstar singer whom he described as one of Africas finest artistes of the moment.Dbanj on his part praised the two Felas efforts and the successes the play had recorded so far especially on Broadway. They talked about other areas of future collaboration amid drinks.Raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and attended Brentwood College School in Mill Bay, BC, Canada, Mambo earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern California. Hes been playing the saxophone since he was ten years old. He also plays the piano, bass, and guitar. Won a Daytime Emmy for Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 1996 and 1997 for his work in Guiding Light. He speaks fluent French. And was a huge fan of Randy Macho Man Savage, and frequently mimicked him in schoolyard wrestling matches. Also played Mr. T in a school production of Wrestlemania.
