Ekiti govt denies sacking workers for voting for Jonathan

EKITI State Government yesterday said it has no intention of suspending any civil servant in the state for voting for President Goodluck Jonathan last weekend, just as it denied rumours that some workers had been sanctioned for voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the election.The Commissioner for Information, Communication, Civic Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Fola Richie-Adewusi who made the clarification during a press parley with the members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, said all the civil servants  in the state have inalienable rights under the law to vote for candidates of their choices, but  insisted that such rights should not be taken as far as getting involved  in partisan politics.Mrs Richie-Adewusi said the present administration is not interested in do or die politics. She warned civil servants not to be partisan because it is against Civil Service Rules, which they must adhere to.It is wrong for civil servants to serve as party agents. It is not the making of the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration; that is the law, she said.She said Governor Fayemi was focused on moving the state forward and warned youths in the state against political thuggery and act that could disrupt the existing peace in the state.Meanwhile, the people of Efon in Efon Local Council area of the state have called on the Federal Government to save the town from the menace of erosion, which is currently ravaging it, just as they decried the deplorable state of the roads in the local council.Caretaker Chairman of the local council, Chief Joel Omoniyi who made the plea on behalf of the people, lamented the high rate of erosion in the town that completely cut it off from nearby towns.A statement signed by the Special assistant on Media to Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Mr. Gbenga Sodeinde added that the scourge has rendered many people homeless and property worth millions of naira destroyed.Omoniyi who lamented further that the Federal Government on many occasions in the past had visited the affected areas with promises of checkmating the menace.He added that the council has spent millions of naira to ameliorate the problem and appealed to the Federal Government to come to the councils rescue.
