Okagbare wins silver at IAAF challenge

ONE of Nigeria's London 2012 hopeful, Blessing Okagbare yesterday finished second in the women 100 metres event of the 2012 IAAF World Challenge held in Deagu, South Korea.Okagbare, a Beijing 2008 Olympics bronze medallist in long jump, returned at a time of 11.21 seconds, trailing United States of Ameri-ca's Carmelita Jetter to the finish line.Jetter won the race with a 11.11 seconds as Jamaica's Aleen Baley finished third on 11.34 seconds.Another Nigerian, Gloria Asmnu failed to make the grade as she ended fourth in women 200 metres at a time of 23.29 seconds. USA's Laghante Moore led the event.Meanwhile, it was a clean sweep for the Americans in the 100 metres men category.Justin Gatlin led the race on 9.93 seconds and was followed by compatriot, Mike Rodgers who ended on 10.06.Jacques Harvey came third on 10.16 secs.The victory of Japan's 4 by 400 metres was enthralling as the team ran an amazing 3.01:04 seconds to dislodge the pacesetting Aussie squad to the second place on 3.01.58 sec.The IAAF Daegu Championship meeting is one of the top 15 IAAF events. It is a one-day championship.
