GIWA FC of Jos top goal scorer, Ibrahim Shaibu, whose team is placed second on the Nigeria National League (NNL) Division B table, says league leaders, Nasarawa United cannot stop his side's quest to gain promotion to the elite class. The league has only two games left for the season and Shuaibu, who has emerged the NNL player of the month for two consecutive times (February and March), believes the remaining matches will determine the eventual winner of the division.Shaibu, who leads the scorers' chart with eight goals, believes his team's games at home against Sokoto United and NAF Rockets of Abuja places it in better stead than Nasarawa United, who has two away games.'We have all done the calculations together in camp and convinced ourselves that we are promotion bound. I believe that Nasarawa United cannot stop us at this point. That was why we struggled to pull a draw against them last week in Kafanchan.'Other promotion battles in the NNL include the tussle between El Kanemi and Spotlight FC in Division 1A, and the Nembe City versus Akwa Starlets in Division 1C.With just two matches to go in the league, El- Kanemi of Maiduguri and Spotlight of Katsina, engulfed in a battle to determine who takes the group's sole promotion ticket in 1A, will clash in Maiduguri this weekend.Spotlight is currently on top with 24 points, one point ahead of the Kelechi Emetole-tutored Maiduguri side. Also in the group, the match between FC Taraba and Ranchers bees will draw a lot of attention as both teams will be struggling to place themselves in a better position, waiting for either El- kanemi Warriors or Spotlight to falter. With a total of 27 points and two matches to go, NPL chairman, Rumson Baribote's pet project, Nembe City looks set to move to the elite league next season, one year after its birth.
