Bishops' Training Holds At Ibru Centre

THE Batch 'C' of the Church of Nigeria's, (Anglican Communion) training school was held at the Ibru International Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State on May 6-19, 2012.The Director of Studies and Principal of the school, Rt. Rev. Ken Okeke (retired Bishop of the Diocese on the Niger), accompanied by his wife, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi, arrived the Centre early on Sunday May 6 to attend to logistics and receive participants.Ken and Ngozi are seasoned missioners, full of knowledge and experience. Ken was, for years, Chairman of the Church of Nigeria Missionary Society.The school was at the instance of the Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh. It sought to acquaint bishops with skills to enable them function effectively.The curriculum of the school included: 'Relationship between the bishop and his Wife; Listening skills; Financial administration and accountability; Political awareness; Global Anglican relations; Recruitment and training; and Record keeping.Others are Personality and skills audit; Millennium Development Goals; Canon Law/Constitution/Pastoral Formation; Information and Communication Technology; Pastoral Care; Mission; Seminar on Self-reliance; Mission statement; Vision statement and Goal setting and evaluation.'In a Eucharistic service to welcome participants at the St. Peter's Chapel, Chaplain of the Centre, Rev. Canon Gabriel Kpagban, gave a brief homily. He also thanked God for the safe arrival of participants and wished them a pleasant stay at the Centre. Rector of the facility, Ven. Ernest Onuoha, celebrated the Eucharistic service.Persons who lectured were Bishops Tunde Poopola; David Onuoha; James O. Oladunjoye and Mr. Emmanuel Aguariavbodo.Participants expressed gratitude to leaders of the Church for creating the school. They set time to pray for peace and unity in the nation and for God to uphold the Church.About 22 bishops and their wives were in attendance.
