Kano police ban political rallies, as normalcy returns to KanoNYSC DG condemns killings of corps members in BauchiApproves their return to home states

Published by Tribune on Sat, 23 Apr 2011

The mayhem unleashed on corps  members serving in Bauchi State, which led to the death of some of them while several others were injured aftermath of last Saturdays presidential election, has been described as barbaric, criminal and a wanton act, which must be condemned in all ramifications, just as the corps members have been assured of their safety and safe return home.Addressing the corps members at the Senior Staff Development Centre of the State Security Service (SSS) in Bauchi, on Thursday, the Director-General of the NYSC, General Maharazu Tsiga, said that, all those who did these dastardly acts are nothing but criminals, who must be fished out and dealt with in accordance with the criminal laws of the country, they must not be allowed to go scot free.A visibly worried Tsiga assured that arrangements were being made to evacuate all the corps members from Bauchi State to their various home states, saying, our concern is to ensure your safety by organising a convoy of vehicles that will take you to the nearest safe places to your homes so that you will be reunited with your parents. He added that though the road was not safe for them to travel immediately, those whose parents were ready to take them could do so advising, however, that safety measures should be considered by them while going to their various homes because, according to him, some of the roads are still not safe as the situation is still a bit tense.Amidst shouts of we want to go home by the corps members, the NYSC DG declared that from the present situation, the corps members may not be used for the remaining elections since they have been made targets of attacks by those criminals. We will do everything possible to ensure that they are all safe and well before going home.
