Kano police ban political rallies, as normalcy returns to Kano

Published by Tribune on Sat, 23 Apr 2011

THE Kano State Police Commissioner,Danazumi Doma, has said that all political rallies of whatever form are banned, saying any political party that organises political rally will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. This is just as normalcy has been restored in Kano, as shops earlier closed had been re-opened for business.Speaking on Thursday in Kano, the police commissioner called on politicians to warn their supporters not to flout the order, because security operatives would deal decisively with whoever went against the law.His words, it is now an offence for any political party to hold any political gathering, meeting or rally in the state, failure to comply with this order would be restricted by security operatives. The CP said that so far , over 100 suspects had been arrested, interrogated and those found wanting had been charged to court and remanded in prison custody. He stressed that the police alongside other security agencies were trying to identify and apprehend the sponsors of the dastardly act, noting that no matter how highly placed, anyone found to be behind thepost- election violence would be prosecuted, along with his/her agents and conspirators. He equally warned rumour mongers and alarmists to desist from spreading rumours capable of escalating tension in the state.Besides, he cautioned parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards do not allow themselves to be used by  mischief makers who do not mean well for the country.
