Oyo poll: Arapaja, Akinjide, others condemn Ibadan group for adopting candidate

THE Ibadan EldersForum, a group consisting of some prominent indigenes of the Oyo State capital, has come under severe criticisms over its decision to anoint the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Abiola Ajimobi, as its preferred candidate in the election scheduled for next Tuesday.The forum had, on Tuesday, after several unsuccessful attempts to convince the gubernatorial candidate of the Accord Party (AP), Senator Rashidi, to step down for Ajimobi, announced that the ACN candidate was the choice of Ibadan and its people.However, the Ibadan Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Stakeholders, on Wednesday, at a press conference, condemned the decision, saying that it was irresponsible of any group of persons, not being a political organisation, to adopt Ajimobi.The PDP Stakeholders, which equally consists of eminent Ibadan indigenes, including the state deputy governor, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, former Governors Omololu Olunloyo and Kolapo Ishola, Chief Richard Akinjide and Chief Dejo Raimi, also said that the adoption of Ajimobi was bizarre and unexpected.
