Edo govt approves N20m for boreholes in Ofunama, other coastal communities

Published by Tribune on Mon, 21 May 2012

Edo State government has approved N20 million for the provision of boreholes in Ofunama and other coastline communities in the state. The state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who made this known during his re-election campaign rally at Okada and Iguobazuwa communities in Ovia Federal Constituency of the state, said only purpose-based governance could facilitate speedy development.Besides, the governor said, 'the road leading from Ofunama to Udo has been awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC) and in every local government, there will be a project based on our recommendation,' he said, adding that, 'we want to change the face of politics from that of deceit to that of development.'Oshiomhole said no local government area would be left out of the development agenda of his administration, just as he pointed out that 'The poverty we are seeing around is not an act of God because He has been generous to Nigeria. The condition of our people will change when men of conscience rule and never again shall we be governed by the forces of darkness.'According to him, 'When we held a rally here in 2007, the school where we are today was like a typical Edo school, no roof, no furniture and everywhere was leaking. I did say then that we will rebuild not only this school, but we would try and rebuild all the schools in Edo and we have started.'Governor Oshiomhole further said his administration had abolished school fees in primary and secondary schools while the school fees of Ambrose Ali University (AAU), Ekpoma, was reduced by N15,000. 'We are delivering on health care, on education and electricity across the length and breadth of Edo State.'He assured the people of Ovia that whatever was on ground now would be doubled if he was re-elected for a second tenure, urging them to join him to take Edo State to a new level.'When we say we deserve a second term, it is based on our present report card,' he added.
