Published by Guardian on Sat, 23 Apr 2011

ABIA State Government has raised alarm over alleged plot by some persons in the state to cause disaffection ahead of Tuesdays elections.Addressing journalists in Lagos yesterday, Chief Press Secretary to Abia State governor, Mr. Kingsley Emeruwa alleged that security reports reaching the State government revealed plots by a defeated senatorial candidate from Abia North in the last National Assembly election, to use some members of various professional groups in the state to cause trouble.According to information at the disposal of government, several notable citizens of the state have also been pencilled down for abduction and possible elimination with a view to create an atmosphere of insecurity and embarrass people returning to the state ahead of the Easter celebrations and the last lap of the general elections.Already, a meeting between the politician and a leader of one of the associations in the state who is his second cousin, and also of Abia North extraction, was held in Abuja on Wednesday night, where plans were concluded to mobilise members of the various professional associations in the state and some sections of the media to incite members of the public against the state government through the release of inciting resolutions and press statements.Members of the public are enjoined to be more security conscious by not taking any unusual security situation for granted, but promptly report same to the nearest security agencies .Government wants to assure the entire residents of the state, including those returning for Easter celebration, that it will not spare anything, including resources to ensure that the lasting peace and security achieved by the present administration is permanently sustained, Emeruwa stressed.
