Kaduna to send 300 athletes to National Sports Festival

ABOUT 300athletesfrom Kaduna State will participate in the forthcoming 18th National Sports Festival slated for November in Lagos,the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hafiz Mohammed, has disclosed.Speaking at a press briefing in Kadunayesterday, the commissioner advised other states' contingents to the fiesta to be prepared for battle as Kaduna would go all out to win laurels no matter the opposition.Mohammed disclosed that a committee had been set up by Governor PatrickYakowa to retrieve a report of the last sports festival in Rivers State from his predecessor in office, pointing out that the state would learn from its past in order to excel in the next sports fiesta in Lagos.He explained that thestate would compete in20 events, adding that after the screening of its athletesduringand after the closed camp, 300 athletes were selected to fly the state's banner at Eko 2012.Mohammed added that over N143 million has been budgeted for theevent, while noting that the state government has completed three mini stadia in Kafanchan, Zariaand the state capital as part of the current administration's mandate to develop the state's sports infrastructures.The Kafanchan Stadium, he noted, is currently being usedby Nasarawa United Football Club 'all the way from Keffi in Nasawara State.' Speaking on the management of the facilities used during the 16th National Sports Festival - KADA 2009, Mohammed said they were being managed by facility managers and not on leaseas speculated.
