2 unemployed women in court for assault

Two unemployed women were on Tuesday, arraigned before a Surulere Magistrates' Court, Lagos, charged with assaulting each other with a knife and kerosene.Maria Sunday (35) and Martha Ometta (28), both resided at No 11, Olatokunbo Street, Sari Iganmu, Lagos, were facing a three-count charge of assault, stabbing and pouring kerosene.The prosecutor, Cpl. Chukwuemeka Obi, told the court that fight ensued between the duo when Sunday allegedly said Ometta was HIV/AIDS Positive.He said during the fight, Ometta stabbed Sunday on the right side of her face with a knife, causing her bodily harm.According to the prosecutor, Sunday retaliated by pouring kerosene on Ometta.He said that the offences contravened Sections 170 and 171 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.The two women pleaded not guilty.Magistrate A.O. Soladoye granted the accused a bail of N100,000 each, with two sureties in like sum; and adjourned the case till June 6 for mention.
