Champions League Results 2015: Group Tables After Tuesday's Final Scores

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 09 Dec 2015

Manchester United failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League following their 3-2 loss against Wolfsburg on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Real Madrid trashed Malmo 8-0, and Manchester City passed Juventus in the Group D standings. The Citizens beat Borussia Monchengladbach 4-2 and were aided by Sevilla, who held on for a 1-0 win at home against Serie A champions Juventus. Atletico Madrid secured the top spot in Group C with a 2-1 win over Benfica, and Galatasaray will move to the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Astana. Here's a look at the full results from Tuesday: The final Champions League group tables after Tuesday:RecapCristiano Ronaldo scored no fewer than four goals against Malmo to set a new record for goals in the group stages, and Karim Benzema added a hat-trick of his own to guide Real to an incredible 8-0 win.Los Blancos dominated from start to finish and were ruthlessly efficient in front of goal, and their opponents looked almost comically poor. The 8-0 scoreline may seem absurd, but Real could have realistically scored double-digit goals on Tuesday.Per Squawka Football, Ronaldo and Benzema reportedly combined to become the first team-mates to score hat-tricks in the same match in the modern Champions League. The former also came close to breaking a host of other records, per ESPN Stats & Info:While Benzema certainly deserves special praise for his great showing and others also impressedIsco piled up the assists, and Mateo Kovacic added a goal of his ownRonaldo stole the show against Malmo. Goal UK put his group-stage performance into perspective:In Group A's other match, Paris Saint-Germain easily beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0. Lucas Moura and Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the goals, and the latter became PSG's all-time leading scorer in Europe, per Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson.Group B certainly served up the most drama and crazy twists on Tuesday, as Wolfsburg beat Manchester United 3-2 to lock up the top spot, and PSV Eindhoven passed the Red Devils in the standings with a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow. In Germany, United's Anthony Martial gave the visitors an early lead before Naldo and Vieirinha turned the situation around, and there was some controversy toward the end of the first half, with the official ruling out a goal from Jesse Lingard because Juan Mata interfered with play from an offside position.Marouane Fellaini forced an own goal from Josuha Guilavogui in the second half that had fans of the Red Devils hoping for a miracle, only to watch Naldo put Die Wolfe back in the lead less than two minutes later.Club legend Paul Scholes was hard on United, per BT Sport Football:While all that was playing out, fans were also keeping an eye on proceedings in the Netherlands. PSV and CSKA failed to score in the first half, but when Sergei Ignashevich converted a penalty, things were once again looking up for the Red Devils.Luuk de Jong equalised just two minutes later, however, virtually putting PSV in second place, and Davy Propper's late winner secured passage to the next round for the Dutch side.Raheem Sterling scored twice to guide City to a 4-2 win over Borussia Monchengladbach, who took a shocking lead at the Etihad through Raffael just before half-time. David Silva had put the hosts up by a goal, but Julian Korb pulled the Germans level within minutes. After the break, Sterling and Wilfried Bony fired the Premier League giants to three points, and with former Juventus star Fernando Llorente scoring the only goal in Sevilla's win over the Bianconeri, it meant City regained the lead in Group D.Per BT Spot Football, Sterling thought it was important to avoid a draw against one of Europe's top clubs in the next round:Atletico Madrid and Benfica had already qualified for the next round, and the two went head-to-head in their final match with the top spot on the line. Saul Niguez and Luciano Dario Vietto gave Atletico a two-goal lead, which was enough to get past the Portuguese side despite Konstantinos Mitroglou's late strike.
