Police, INEC Alerted On Importation Of Thugs, Fake Ballot Materials

Published by Guardian on Sun, 24 Apr 2011

THE Director-General of the Ibrahim Gaidam 2011 Campaign Organisation (IGCO) in Yobe State, Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, has alerted the Police and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on an alleged deployment of thugs and importation of fake ballot boxes and papers from the Republic of Niger ahead of Tuesdays gubernatorial election.Speaking at a press conference in Damaturu on Friday, Karasuwa alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) embarked on the initiative in a bid to win at all cost.He said: The PDP in the state, in desperation, has perfected a plan to undermine the governorship election by instigating and foisting a state of lawlessness across Yobe with the intention of either rigging the elections in their favour or forcing its outright cancellation. The exercise, he said, is meant to create a malicious impression that the ANPP is trying to rig the elections. He said: The intelligence report reaching the ANPP showed that those at the centre of the plot have already deposited the fake ballot papers in neighbouring Jigawa State. He revealed that there is a plan to ferry the materials in on the eve of governorship elections.Karasuwa therefore called on the Police and other security agencies to be on the alert. He also called for an investigation into the alleged plot, urging voters to come out en masse to elect their governor and legislators without intimidation.
